Olivia serves as Smarty Pants’ Accounts Payable Manager or “Expense Expert.” She plays a vital role in keeping the company’s financial and operational “house” in pristine order. Her core responsibility is to ensure research participants, vendors, employees, benefits providers and others are properly paid. But her real strength is in developing and implementing financial controls and processes that streamline business operations, drive efficiency, reduce expenses and increase profitability.
When Olivia joined the team in early 2021, she brought a wealth of talent and expertise. She is an accomplished professional with over 20 years of progressive experience in accounting, finance and business operations. She has applied her talents across government, health care, education and private sector business – as a QuickBooks pro, budget manager, HR leader and procurement whiz. Did we mention that she’s a Notary Public, too?
Olivia began her career as the financial operations lead at a major construction firm on the East Coast. There, she thrived in the complex, fast-paced environment - managing payments for dozens of projects, contractors, suppliers and subcontractors. She then made a move to local government, serving as the executive assistant to a city manager. In that position, she directed the development of new, cost-effective and efficient protocols and supported the successful operations of the city’s government.
Olivia later transitioned to become the executive assistant to the president of a community college where she served as liaison to local, state and federal leaders, planned major milestone events, managed multiple departmental budgets and advised on policies, personnel relations and strategic planning.
Most recently, Olivia applied her financial and managerial prowess as she led the accounting, finance, business management, HR, marketing and personnel for two, regional medical practices.
Olivia’s lengthy pedigree includes an MBA from the University of South Carolina, a Bachelor of Business Administration from King College and two associates degrees from Virginia Highlands Community College. With each degree, she graduated with honors and was on the Dean’s List every semester.
Olivia works at Smarty Pants headquarters in Johnson City, TN. She lives with her husband and German Shepherd pup in neighboring Bristol, TN - that cool city in the GEICO commercial that has a street with Tennessee on one side and Virginia on the other.
